![]() ![]() ![]() I'm glad they came back from that a bit, although I like a lot of those songs. Yea I&L&Y was like a different band entirely. I’d do anything to have them keep writing more music like this. Instrumentally stripped down, creatively written, upbeat, and singing their hearts out. Over all, this song is the epitome of the Avett brothers sound that I fell in love with a decade ago. ![]() It’s a shame they don’t really do that as much anymore. Some might have worked better than others, but it was always interesting and I loved that about them. The very end (the “la la” part) is kind of goofy, but I often reference as an example of how they used to find some peculiar ways to end songs. Some of the best vocal work Seth’s ever done. The sudden change towards the end into a more swinging rhythm (the “I got secrets from you.” part) is not only well written, but well executed. The lyrics are wonderfully creative and sincere, but it’s not a love song which gives it a unique sort of character. The chord progression really sings a song of its own. This is the song that tipped them over from being a band I knew a little about and thought it was pretty good to being a band I loved and wanted to learn everything about them. ![]()
